In Colombia, the monitoring and control of the atmosphere contamination, has taken day after day a higher importance, because of the numbers that the health worldwide organization give about the percentage of people dying because of the air contamination problem.

In a national level, the national department of planning stated that during 2015, the effects of this phenomenon were associated to 10.527 dead and 67,8 million of symptoms and diseases, in addition to this, the environment costs associated to the atmosphere contamination in Colombia, during the lasts years were increasing from 1.1% ($5.7 billion of pesos) to 1.59% ($12 billion of pesos), which evidences the need of keep implementing strategies to control, evaluate and monitor those substances.

According to the lasts reports, the quality of the air is being highly affected by cars that use diesel gas.

The main zones affected by relevant levels of atmosphere contamination are: Valle de Aburrá, the municipalities of Puente Aranda, Carvajal and Kennedy in Bogotá, Ráquira’s town in Boyacá and the industrial zone of ACOPI in Yumbo (Valle del Cauca).
